“Dancing Santa” Ramiro Hinojas is spreading joy amidst the chaos of Manila’s traffic, turning a bustling intersection into a stage for his lively dance performances. The 57-year-old, donning a Santa Claus costume, not only entertains commuters and motorists but also takes on the role of a traffic conductor, navigating the congested roads with flair.

Hinojas, known for his elaborate dance moves, sees his performances as a way to combat boredom and bring a smile to people’s faces during the seemingly endless wait at traffic lights. Beyond the entertainment value, he emphasizes the importance of staying physically active, sharing that his unique approach to traffic management doubles as his daily exercise routine.

In contrast to the conventional stationary traffic enforcers, Hinojas’ dynamic and spirited style has garnered positive reactions from both drivers and pedestrians. Acknowledging the health benefits of his unconventional approach, he reflects on the unfortunate fate of colleagues who succumbed to illness due to prolonged periods of inactivity.

“I keep doing this because I need to exercise. If I don’t exercise, I will feel weak. I have a lot of colleagues who passed away; they would always just stand here, not moving, so they got sick. I don’t get sick because I get to exercise here,” explains Hinojas.

His performances have become a welcomed spectacle, not just for their entertainment value but also as a source of stress relief for those navigating Manila’s challenging traffic conditions. Motorists, such as Jeremy Jimenez, express their delight, noting that Hinojas’ dancing serves as a mood booster, making the journey through the congested intersection a more pleasant experience.

“We are happy to see him dancing while we pass through. He looks like someone who doesn’t have a problem. He’s making people happy,” says Jimenez, highlighting the positive impact of Hinojas’ spirited presence in the midst of the daily grind.
